WEST FARMINGTON -- William Peter List, 94, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at his home, with his family by his side.
He was born in Oakfield (Bristolville), April 28, 1926, son of the late R. Nelson and Edna Young List.
William was husband to the late Ruby Huff List, and the late Joyce Schindler Beechy List; father of three: William Jr. (deceased) and his wife Jane Ellen List of Parkman, Joseph Gregg and his wife Valerie List of Cortland and Sally Knorr of Akron; grandfather of six: Kelly (Harlan) Wilson, David (Donna) List, Melissa (Sean Hood) List, Rebecca List, James (Kaite) Marshall and Jonathan Marshall; great-grandfather of seven; and great-great-grandfather of one. He was a brother of Helen Drescher, Robert, George, Jack and Joseph List, who all passed away before him.
William was a graduate of Bristolville High School in 1944 and went to Barber College. He was a barber from 1949-1991 and was co-owner and operator of List Cut Rate Drug Store 1950-1990. He also did home insulation. William married Ruby W. Huff on Feb. 19, 1944. They were married 47 years before she died in 1991. He married Joyce L. Beechy in 1992 and they were married 25 years before she died in 2018.
William enjoyed bird watching, woodworking, bowling, golfing, hunting and fishing. He always enjoyed being active.
He was a member of the Journeyman Barbers Hairdressers and Cosmetologists International Union of America, No. 90939, a member and trustee of the West Farmington United Methodist Church. He was the oldest member of the Geauga Camp Gideons International and a member of the Knights of Pythias. William also served with the West Farmington Vol. Fire Dept. and was a township trustee for many years.
Calling hours will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2021, until the funeral service to celebrate his life at 1 p.m., at Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 West High St. Middlefield, OH 44062.
Per family wishes and State of Ohio mandate, masks and social distancing will be required.
