Phil Aldridge 1927-2020

HOUSTON — Philip James Aldridge passed from this life after a short illness on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2020, which was also his 93rd birthday. He was a longtime resident of the Warren area before moving to Houston in 1981.

A graduate of Leavittsburg High School, his education was interrupted when he was drafted by the Army during the Korean War, serving as a radio operator in Japan. After graduation, he joined the Air Force and was a cook with the 75th Air Depot Wing in South Korea. Later in life, he and his wife, Terry, organized annual reunions for the 75th Air Depot Wing veterans for over 20 years.

Phil was always friendly and personable and had many friends and associates in the Warren area. He was employed as the Warren area distributor of the Youngstown Vindicator for many years before becoming a Realtor, a career he enjoyed until finally retiring the age of 92.

A music lover, he enjoyed playing upright bass and was a member of a big band while in the service. He was a choir member and elder at the Bazetta Christian Church and at the Taylor Lake Christian Church in Houston.

Phil was an avid sports fan and had the thrill of a lifetime attending a Houston Astros game with his son-in-law, Dan, during the team’s 2017 World Series win. He had never missed watching or listening to the Kentucky Derby since the 1940s. He also enjoyed cooking gourmet meals and growing flowers.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Aldridge Considder.

Phil was deeply loved by his family and is survived by his wife of 65 years, Terry St. Clair Aldridge of Spicewood, Texas; daughters, Marlowe MacIntyre (Bob Johnson) of Spicewood, Beth Hall (Eric) of League City, Texas, Susan Gama (Dan) of Pasadena, Texas and Amy Sinclair (Jim Barnhouse) of Austin, Texas; brother-in-law, Philip St. Clair (Christina) of Ashland, Ky.; sister-in-law, Evelyn St. Clair Burns (Bob) of Austin; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins.

A celebration of Phil’s life will be held at a future date at the Taylor Lake Christian Church in Houston.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to your local pet shelter or animal rescue.
