WARREN -- Elizabeth I. "Betty" Kloss, 91, of Warren, passed away on Friday, Dec. 11, 2020, at 4:25 a.m., at her home, with Hospice Care and her loving family by her side.
She was born New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, 1928, in Sharon, Pa., the daughter of the late George and Frances Huff Bennington.
During her childhood, she fondly remembers her summers spent in Mercer, Pa., on her father's family farm.
Elizabeth graduated from Sharon High School, Class of 1946.
As a young woman and mother, she instilled in her children a desire to achieve, making plans and following through. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Sharon, and her children's PTA. After her children were in school, Elizabeth became a licensed cosmetologist and owned and operated several businesses.
She completed a degree in business at Penn State Shenango in 1973 and worked in NYC in computer sales. Later she held jobs in office management and event planning. Her favorite position, which she held for almost 10 years before retirement, was that of the administrator of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta, Ga.
While living in Atlanta, she held the position of director of the Memorial Society of Georgia, an organization that assists those making end of life decisions. She maintained membership at several Unitarian Universalist churches during her later life.
After retiring, she moved back to Warren to be closer to family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards and singing with the Sweet Adelines. She was proud of her volunteer work at Hillside Hospital.
Elizabeth was a role model to her children and grandchildren. She believed in experiencing new things and maintaining a positive can-do attitude. Young at heart, she traveled with friends on learning excursions both in the U.S. and internationally.
She married Raymond Edward Kloss Sr. on Sept. 1, 1946; and he preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1971.
Surviving are her brother, Edward (Joan) Bennington of Massillon; a sister, Alice Lyth of Sharon; her four children, Linda (Tom) Hitmar of Cortland, Diane (Dave Krantz) Kloss of Kent, Raymond (Karen) Kloss of Broomfield, Colo. and Sandra (Michael) Heffernan of Parma Heights; and by nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Due to COVID-19, there will be no calling hours or memorial services and a caring cremation has taken place. A private family burial will take place, at a later date, in America's Cemetery in Hermitage, Pa.
The family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations, in Betty's name, to either the Arthritis Foundation of Northeast Ohio or to the National Alliance for Mental Illness.
