David H. McLain 1963-2020

WARREN -- Attorney David Heskett McLain, 56, passed away from COVID-19 on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital.

He was born Dec. 11, 1963, in Warren, the son of Judge David F. McLain and Mary Flo Compton McLain.

David attended Warren schools, graduating from Warren G. Harding High School in 1982, with honors.

He attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, graduating in 1986 with a bachelor of arts degree. David was active in the Theta Chi Fraternity. Following graduation, he was involved in Miami Alumni recruiting.

He then attended and graduated from the University of Toledo College of Law in 1989, where he was a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, served as president his senior year and represented the Toledo Law School at the National Convention in Scottsdale, Ariz.

He was counsel to the Trumbull County Engineer and served as Trumbull County Public Defender and Warren city prosecutor.

He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church.

David loved all sports and was an avid golfer, whether at home or traveling, playing many different courses. His love of travel continued all his life, as he was always ready to go. He had a special affinity for New York City, which he knew well -- its history and theater.

Survivors include cousins, Mary Bertuzzi, Frank Bertuzzi, Chris Milano, Gina Ciambotti and Mike Collins; and his McLain cousins, Patrick, Bridget, Brian and Megan.

David was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Mark Compton McLain, who passed in 1989.

David loved the following: "Remember to be gentle with yourself and others. We are all children of chance, and none can say while some fields will blossom and others lay brown beneath the August sun. Care for those around you. Look past your differences. Their dreams are no less than yours, their choices in life no more easily made. And give. Give in any way you can, of whatever you possess. To give is to love. To withhold is to wither. Care less for your harvest than how it is shared, and your life will have meaning and your heart will have peace." -- Kent Nerburn.

As per David's wishes, there will be no services. Cremation has taken place.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Staton-Borowski Funeral Home, 962 North Road NE, Warren, OH 44483, 330-394-6200. Dedicated to serving your loved ones. This obituary may be viewed and condolences sent to www.statonborowskifuneral home.com.
