Donald L. Gruver 1938-2019
WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. — Donald Lee Gruver, 81, died of an apparent heart attack while hunting near his home Saturday, Nov, 16, 2019.
Donald was born July 8, 1938, in Hawthorne, to the late Russell and Helen Shick Gruver. He married Phyllis Irene Barly Sept. 23, 1967; she survives at their residence.
Donald graduated from West Middlesex High School and the New Castle School of Trades. He had both carpenter journeyman and electrical certification. Donald retired from Sharon Steel, which was later known as Duferco Steel. He was a member of the Kedron Lodge F & AM No. 389, West Middlesex.
Donald was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed camping and boating. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Phyllis, survivors include two daughters, Darlene (John) Cesta of Champion, Ohio, and Kathy (Pete) Young of Sacramento, Calif.; sons, Gary (Colleen) Gruver of Warren, Ohio, Raymond Guiney of Greenville, Robert (Carrie) Gruver of Spokane, Wash., and Alan R. (Melanie) Gruver of Hermitage; two brothers, Charles (Eileen) Gruver of West Middlesex and Russell (Dawn) Gruver of Huntsville, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019, and 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019, at the Smith Funeral Home, 3126 Main St., West Middlesex, Pa.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Bryan Warner of Wayside Emmanuel Church will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Kedron Lodge F & AM No. 389, West Middlesex, Pa. or the American Heart Association.
