NILES -- Robert S. Hreno, 83, of Niles, passed away Monday, May 21, 2018, at Hospice of The Valley Hospice House in Poland.
He was born Nov. 19, 1934, in Niles, the son of Stephen and Mary Susko Hreno.
Bob was a 1952 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and attended Kent State University. At the age of 14, he helped build with his father the Elm Road Triple Drive-In Theatre in Warren, which opened on Aug. 3, 1950. He then became owner and operator with his wife and daughter Sheri throughout the last 67 years.
He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Parish in Niles, the United Drive-In Theatres Association, the Silver Lakes Resort Men's Horse Shoe Club, and enjoyed hunting, cars, landscape designing and home building.
Bob loved spending his winters in Florida, where he enjoyed spending time on the beach, playing horseshoes, golfing and attending car shows. He also loved camping with his family and traveling.
Bob was a U.S. Navy veteran during the Korean War, having served as both a postmaster and radio man on the USS Windham Bay.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Grace Frasca Hreno, whom he married Feb. 11, 1961; three daughters, Lisa Hreno (Perry) Parke of Marietta, Ga., Sheri (Mark) Hocevar of Southington and Heidi (Randy) Walter of Canfield; two sisters, Betty Huber of McDonald and Dolly (Bernard) Pehanich of Niles; nine grandchildren, Joshua Hocevar, Erika (Michael) Garver, Jacob Hocevar, Mitchell Parke, Reese Parke and Cameron Parke and Zachary Walter, Derek Walter and Chase Walter.
Friends may call 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles. A Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles, preceded by a 10:30 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery, where Bob will be honored for his military service by The Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard.
