Mary C. Friend

Mary was born Feb. 21, 1969, in Warren, to Francis J. and Catherine Bizyk Shaker and was a lifelong area resident.

A 1986 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, Mary obtained a bachelor’s degree in education from Kent State University and a master’s degree from Westminster College. She was currently on leave from the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, where she was an assessment / secondary education teacher.

Mary enjoyed making homemade jewelry.

She was of the Catholic faith and a member of St. Mary’s Church in Warren, where she was their housekeeper and cook for many years as she attended high school; a job that “ran in the family” for her mother, Catherine, held the position after Mary, until her untimely passing in 1993.

A loving daughter, mother, wife, sister, aunt and friend, Mary will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey “Jeff” J. Friend, whom she married on Aug. 29, 2003; her father and stepmother, Francis and Helen Shaker of Warren; her mother-in-law, Beverly Friend of Champion; a son, Timothy Allen of Warren; stepdaughters, Lauren Friend of Vienna and Sarah Friend of Greensboro, N.C.; her siblings, John F. (Sue) Shaker of Chardon, Joseph S. (Monica) Shaker of Warren, Michael T. (Tuya) Shaker of Warren, Alice R. Silbaugh of Warren and Teresa M. (Eric) Shaffer of Philadelphia; a sister-in-law, Jonelle (Doug) Bahrey of Bristol; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Mary had a special place in her heart for her pets, especially her big baby Sampson and Scruffy.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Catherine Shaker; and father-in-law, John Friend.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2016, at the Sinchak & Sons Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2016, at St. Mary’s Church, with the Rev. Bernard R. Schmalzried officiating. The Mass will be preceded by 9:20 a.m. closing prayers recited at the funeral home, prior to leaving for the church. Burial will follow in All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests, in Mary’s name, memorial contributions honoring her love for animals be made to Angels for Animals, 4750 W. South Range Road, Canfield, OH 44406
