David R. Vogt

HOWLAND – David R. Vogt, 71, of Howland, passed away 6:25 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2015, following a brief illness at O’Brien Memorial Health Care Center, surrounded by his family.

He was born Nov. 20, 1943, in Hartford, Conn., the son of the late Raymond A. and C. Louisa Pender Vogt.

Dave received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University Of Miami, Florida, and came to the Warren area in 1966.

He began his C.P.A. career with Packer, Dieslinger, and Johnson in 1966 and later became a partner with the firm of Turrell, Beach, and Vogt, later Beach and Vogt, and then Anderson, Beach, and Vogt. He also was a partner in Park Place South in Warren. In 1996, Anderson Vogt merged with Hill, Barth and King and he retired in 2004. He also was the chief financial officer for St. Joseph Riverside Hospital for two years.

Following retirement, Dave was the owner of DTS Consulting and Management LLC that provided tax and business consulting services.

Dave was very active in the community serving on the Warren General Hospital Board for 15 years. During that period he served as treasurer, vice chairman, and chairman. He was instrumental in Warren General’s participation in the free-standing ambulatory surgical center in Howland and the sale of the hospital’s assets to HM Health Services in January of 1996. He had a special skill involving hospital related organizations.

He had been active with the Jaycees, the United Way, Boy Scouts, and the NE Ohio Council on Drug Abuse. He served on the Trumbull County Bar Assoc. Grievance Committee, Trumbull Country Club Board of Directors, Mahoning Valley Hospital Board of Directors, and the Woods at Avalon Lakes Homeowners Assoc. Board of Directors. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a past member of the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants. In his youth, he became an Eagle Scout and was a member of the Order of the Arrow.

Dave loved to go golfing, fishing and traveling especially with his grandsons as well as going to their baseball games, band concerts, and other activities. He was a wonderful, supportive father, husband and brother.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Janet (Hilb), with whom he would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Feb. 12, 2016. He also leaves a son, John (Kim) of Cortland; two daughters, Kelly Ann Vogt of Howland and Kathleen Vogt Farr of Salem; a sister, Cynthia (Carl) Epstein of Florida; three grandsons, Kenyon R. Farr, Keaten J. Farr and Austen T. Vogt; and a nephew, Sean Epstein of Arlington, Va.

Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Lane Family Funeral Homes-Roberts Clark Chapel, followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m. The Rev. James Walker will officiate.
