NILES – Marie R. Belcastro, 94, of Niles, died Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 9, 1920, in Niles, the daughter of Sam and Caroline DeGennaro Conti.
She was a 1939 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, employed at Packard Electric during World War II, and a Trumbull County school bus driver and aide for 12 years.
She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles, Catholic Women’s Guild, Bon Amici Club and Monday Rosary Group. She enjoyed house plants, playing cards, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and learned how to fly fish on her 90th birthday. She traveled with her daughters to Hawaii, Mexico and Italy, among other places.
Her husband, Fred Belcastro, whom she married May 10, 1941, died Aug. 10, 1989.
She will be deeply missed by two daughters, Karen (John) Kirk of Rocky River and Deborah (Timothy) O’Leary of Warren; two grandchildren, Elisa Marie (David) Bartels and Brian Frederick (Donika) Kirk; two stepgrandchildren, Timothy O’Leary Jr. and Jennifer O’Leary (Christian) McKernan; five great-grandchildren, Sophia, Angelina, Claire, Julia and Daniel; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Maggie, Regan and Liam; and several close friends.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph Conti, Michael Conti and Carmen Bonacci Sr.; and a sister, Lucy D’Amico.
Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles, where the Mount Carmel Bereavement Ministry will conduct prayers at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles, preceded by a 9:30 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery.
