Joseph V. Amendolara 1917-2013

GIRARD – Joseph Vincent “Papa Joe” Amendolara, 95, formerly of Youngstown, died Friday, May 24, 2013, at Heritage Manor.

He was born Dec. 15, 1917, in Youngstown, the son of Joseph and Maria Castranova Amendolara.

He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was awarded the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit and the French Croix de Guerre for his actions in Italy, Africa and France during the D-Day invasions.

Mr. Amendolara was co-owner of the Riptide Bar and part-owner of Rondinelli Dry Ceaners and Tuxedo rental.

Survivors include his son, Robert of Rhode Island; his daughters, Patricia Rich of Girard, Anna Marie Amendolara of New Jersey, Jo Ellen Collier of Hudson and Catherine Amendolara of New York; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Ada Dalesio; a son, Paul Amendolara; and four brothers and two sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon Monday at St. Rose Church in Girard, where calling hours will be held from 10 to 11:45 a.m.
