McDonald names president pro-tem

McDONALD — Village council named Martin Puckett as the new council president pro-tem for 2017, and he also will take on the duties of mayor for the first five months of the year. Puckett, who has served on council five years, will replace Mayor Glenn Holmes in filling the mayor’s duties until after the May primary when a new mayor will be elected. ‘‘I look forward to the challenge ahead and am excited to serve,’’ he said. Last city wellness center employee to leave this week

NILES — The last city employee of the wellness center is ending his tenure as athletic director Thursday. Mayor Tom Scarnecchia said he accepted Scott MacMillan’s resignation and that the city’s park director will oversee the facility for now. “It is with a heavy heart, because I love this facility and I hope it remains a community center,” MacMillan said. “But it is time; they are moving in a different direction, and I am ready to spend more time with my grandkids and parents.” MacMillan said he scheduled soccer events for the facility through March and lined up ...
