Art contest entries accepted Monday
NILES -- To celebrate the centennial of the National McKinley Birthplace Memorial, Chemical Bank and the McKinley Memorial Library are sponsoring a McKinley Art Show Sept. 1 to 23.
Entry forms and contest rules and details are available at the library, all SCOPE centers and the Eastwood Mall customer service center. Artwork and entry forms will be accepted starting Monday.
A gallery opening and awards ceremony will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 1 at the Art Outreach Gallery in the mall. Awards will be presented and the ceremony will include musical entertainment by the Richie Wilkins Trio and light refreshments provided by the Friends of the McKinley Memorial Library.
Best in show entries will be on display throughout October at the library.
Car, motorcycle show at Vista Center
MINERAL RIDGE -- Vista Center at the Ridge, 3379 N. Main St., will hold a car and motorcycle show 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The event will include food, games, and entertainment with Lon G. Prizes will be awarded for the three best of show.

Hall of Fame banquet Sept. 10
NILES -- The Niles McKinley Hall of Fame 20th annual Hall of Fame Recognition Dinner will be 5 p.m. Sept. 10 at Ciminero's Banquet Centre, 123 Main St.
Seven honorees will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. This year's class includes: Dr. Deirdre Adduci, Dennis Biviano, Nancy Malone, Pete Mollica (posthumous), Chad Ries, Ralph Tolbert and honorary inductee Dorothy Fogel.
Cost is $30 per person. Reservations may be made by sending a check made out to Niles Alumni Association to: Nancy Jayne, 317 N. Cedar Ave. Niles, OH 44446. Paid reservations will be listed at the door the night of the dinner.

Niles Middle School sets orientation
NILES -- Niles Middle School will hold sixth, seventh and eighth grade orientations in preparation for the start of the upcoming school year.
The sixth-grade orientation is 9 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 24 The parent / guardian meeting will follow at noon. Students should enter through the canopy doors to the middle school.
There will be a student orientation for seventh and eighth-grade students and parents/guardians who are new to the district 9 a.m. Aug. 25.
