NILES -- A Niles man is hoping to get a Loyal Order of Moose lodge re-established in the city to work with the Women of the Moose group.
Randy Sheldon, who is leading the effort, said the lodge ended 11 years ago. Most of the items in the building off Niles Road were sold and the lodge lost its charter, he said.
Sheldon said Moose Lodges help with Moose Heart to help children through school and assists with sports programs. The lodges also help with Moose Haven, which provides a home for senior citizens.
Plans for the not-for-profit would be to meet twice a month and hold bingo, dances and other local events, he said. The goal would be to reach 100 members.
''Right now I am looking for anyone who would like to be a member and form a new Moose lodge,'' he said.
Membership is open to anyone 21 and older. Niles residency is not required. Dual membership and transfers from another lodge is welcome.
Membership applications are available 1 to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday at Edison Place, 36 W. Church St., Niles. Sheldon said first responders, such as emergency medical service, are eligible to have their membership fees waived for the first year.
