WHAT: Board of Education meeting June 21
PRESENT: Thomas Hannon, Wendy Higgins, Jody Klase and John Saganich
Board members:
• Swore in Joseph M. Cappuzzello, who will complete the rest of former board member Catherine Harvey's term until the end of the year;
• Appointed Klase chair of the personnel committee;
• Appointed Higgins chair of the program and policy committee;
• Appointed Cappuzzello chair of the buildings and grounds and operations committee;
• Appointed Saganich and Klase as chairpersons of the business advisory committee;
• Appointed Higgins as chair of the legislative liaison of OSBA committee;
• Approved the transfer of $19,000 from the general fund to the athletic fund;
• Approved the Ohio School Plan as the insurance provider for both liability and property insurance for July 1 through June 30, 2018, at a cost of $28,423, which includes earthquake insurance;
• Approved the participation in Sheakley's Group Retrospective Program for the 2018 rate year with the projected refund of $10,301 on a total premium of $27,825 at an annual participation fee of $459;
• Approved a contract with Gas Search for natural gas for the district covering Aug. 1 through July 31, 2019 at a cost of $3.28 fixed and mcf, a 10 cent increase per mcf from last year;
• Approved the first reading of a tax levy expected to raise $200,000 per year if passed and planned to be a 10-year levy. The exact millage has yet to be determined, but if it succeeds in the November election, it would take effect after the current levy expires at the end of the next calendar year;
• Hired Michele O'Leary and Patrice Simmons as mentor teachers for the 2017-18 school year at the cost of $1,000 each, with additional mentees up to two at $250 each, up to three total mentees. If there are more than three mentees per building, additional mentors may be hired;
• Approved the following personnel on supplemental contracts for the 2017-2018 school year, Lisa Gilligan as majorette advisor, $1,059; Shawn Lovas as volunteer Devilette assistant; and Kylie Clay as junior high cheerleading adviser, $1,765;
• Approved adult teacher high school lunches to be offered at Roosevelt Elementary School at the cost of $3 each for the 2017-18 school year;
• Approved a contract with Memory Lane Photography for the 2017-18 school year for the purpose of group and individual school pictures for McDonald High School and the elementary school;
• Authorized membership for the district with the Ohio High School Athletic Association for the 2017-18 school year;
• Approved a facilities use agreement between the district and the Village of McDonald, effective May 1, 2017. The agreement is for insurance purposes for when the district uses the village's facilities for events such as cross country or football.

WHAT: Village Council meeting June 21
PRESENT: Brian Fisher, Scott Seitz, Ray Lewis and Richard Harvey
ABSENT: Michael O'Brien, Brian Klase and Mayor Glen Puckett
Council:
• Approved the third reading of a resolution on facilities use agreement. The agreement is between the village and the McDonald Local School District for the school's use of the villages facilities;
• Approved the emergency reading of a resolution of the alternative tax budget;
• Approved the second reading of an ordinance amending the budget;
• Announced the Liberty McDonald Relay For Life was a success, which was held for the first time in Woodland Park.

WHAT: Township trustee meeting June 13
PRESENT: Marvin J. McBride, H. Gilson Blair, Steven J. Gerberry and fiscal officer Fred R. Bobovnyk
Trustees:
• Announced the 2017 residential tree limb chipping program, which began April 28, will continue each Friday through Oct. 6;
• Announced Todd Zickefoose will be sworn in as a part-time police officer on July 11;
• Authorized township Administrator David Rouan to renew the township's membership with the Ohio Department of Administrative Services General Services Division Office of Cooperative Purchasing Program for the term ending July 31, 2018. The program costs an annual fee of $100 and is used by the township to purchase police cruisers;
• Donated $50 to the Girard American Legion in support of Memorial Day preparations to decorate veterans' graves in township cemeteries;
• Donated $100 to the Mineral Ridge VFW Post 4192 in support of Memorial Day preparations to decorate veterans' graves in township cemeteries.
• Accepted the resignation of probationary firefighter Toni Swegan Kline, effective May 20. Kline was unable to continue with the program for medical reasons;
• Authorized Rouan to renew the group policy for life insurance with the Standard Insurance Company of Portland, Ore. The new rate for basic life is 48 cents per $1,000 of benefit, which is up 6 cents from the previous year. Basic accidental death and disability is 3 cents per $1,000 of benefit, which is unchanged from the prior year.
