WHAT: Board of Education meeting Feb. 22
PRESENT: John Saganich, Wendy Higgins, Catherine Harvey, Thomas Hannon and Jodi Klase
The board:
l Scheduled a special meeting, which was held Saturday at the high school media center, for interviewing three architectural firms for the proposed athletic complex. Saganich said a survey is being completed on the proposed site to see if it will be suitable for building a complex. Plans are to select a firm once the survey is completed and reviewed;
l Approved Ohio State Waterproofing to repair water problems in the high school boiler room at a cost of $17,625;
l Heard from Higgins that board members took a tour of the schools and addressed the need for additional security cameras and lighting for gymnasium;
l Heard from Superintendent Robert Rostan of meeting with village officials about a facility use agreement for using village ballfields;
l Recognized the high school student council for hosting fundraisers for eighth-grader Annalise Booth and teacher Cindy Robinson, both battling health issues;
l Accepted the resignation of bus driver Michael Helco for personal reasons;
l Heard from Student Services Director Jessica Krumpak that state testing will be done on computers this spring;
l Received a request from Roosevelt Elementary principal David Vecchione of the need for more technology and Chromebooks at the school for the 2017-18 school year.

WHAT: special Board of Education meeting Feb. 17
PRESENT: Rebecca DePanicis, Susan Giannetti Longacre, Mary Ann McMahon, Tony Perrone, Bobby Seifert and Superintendent Ann Marie A. Thigpen
The board:
l Accepted a donation of socks, hats and scarves made to the district by Trinity Lutheran Church;
l Accepted the June resignation of Jill Gardlock from the position of cafeteria supervisor and the February resignation from the position of bus driver;
l Hired Lori Proper and Nicole Cole as assistant cooks at the high school for two hours a day at step 0 and George Karabin Jr. as a substitute bus driver;
l Approved the renewal of two-year contracts for Marc Fritz, athletic / activity director at the high school; John Jones, maintenance supervisor at the administration building; and Dawn Marshal, transportation supervisor at the bus garage;
l Appointed Sam Reigle to serve as head varsity girls soccer coach and Robert "Bo" Greene to serve as a track coach for boys in seventh and eighth grade;
l Approved a memorandum of understanding between the district and Eastern Gateway College and Kent State University for the College Credit Plus Program;
l Approved a March 3 trip for the high school speech team to travel to Olmstead Falls Middle School for a state speech tournament.
