NILES -- Parents of a senior Niles McKinley High School band or choir member will receive in the mail a letter and application for the William D. Bauman Memorial Music Scholarship.
The $5,000 scholarship was established in the memory of William D. Bauman, a 1947 Niles graduate.
Bauman grew up on the south side of Niles and was active in the school band as well as the Warren Junior Military Band. He believed students should further their education after graduation.
He was very proud of his roots in Niles and following graduation, Bauman kept in touch with the Niles Historical Society and Niles First Methodist Church, even though he moved to the Cleveland area while working for General Electric.
Bauman later set aside a foundation to help two senior music students attend either a two- or four-year postsecondary institution.
The application outlines the requirements, which must include a grade point average and credit on the transcript.
If a senior music student does not receive an application, call the school guidance office at 330-652-9968.
