Council:
l Gave first reading to a resolution authorizing the administration to enter into a contract with a company that will be reliable for the repair, maintenance and management of the city's water storage tanks;
l Approved a resolution authorizing required police training for which the city will be reimbursed;
l Authorized the city to participate in the state cooperative purchasing program;
l Authorized the safety service director to request proposals from companies willing to digitize the city's files;
l Amended the hiring policy to exclude positions that are tested for under the civil service commission;
l Gave first reading to an ordinance that authorizes the purchase of traffic light replacements and a new backhoe in the light department;
l Resolved the street department truck driver and light department assistant sub-station technician positions are necessary and can be filled;
l Gave first reading to a city-wide purchasing policy.

The board allocated:
l $2,750 to Summit Supply and Storage for sanitary sewer repair on Lawnview Avenue;
l $23,100 to several vendors for a contractual clothing allowance for the patrol unit in the police department;
l $12,250 to Greenwood Chevrolet for a used vehicle for the detective bureau;
l $18,500 to Advanced Tree Service LLC for crane service for tree removal;
l $1,396 to Shi International Corp. for cameras and cable for the wellness center;
l $5,000 to several vendors for pre-employment testing for new officer candidates;
l $600 to Brownstone Electric Supply for aluminum wire.

l $1,500 to Squire Patton Boggs for the annual city financial statements for bonds;
l $1,349 to the Trumbull County Engineer for 20 tons of cold mix;
l $500 to Pep Boys for vehicle maintenance parts;
l $949 to National Hose Testing Specialties for an annual ladder test;
l $1,050 to S&S Elevator for service of an elevator at the waste water treatment plant;
l $3,312 to Pepco for stock at the light department;
l $1,689 to Cross Radio Service for emergency equipment for a new detective vehicle and radio repair;
l $1,525 to KV Electric for electrical repairs;
l $3,867 to EZ Facility Inc. for software;
l $2,465 to St. Joseph Warren Hospital for five medical exams for the new firefighters;
l $1,000 to Advanced Loss Prevention Systems for alarm monitoring at various sub-stations;
l $6,136 to Advanced Loss Prevention Systems to install monitoring equipment at four sub-stations.

WHAT: Township trustee meeting Feb. 14
PRESENT: Gil Blair, Marvin McBride and Steve Gerberry
Trustees:
l Authorized the closure of a portion of Stewart Street June 8-11 for the Flag Day Festival;
l Authorized the advertisement of bids for an Ohio Public Works Commission project;
l Authorized fire Chief Randall Pugh to apply for a SAFER grant for department staffing;
l Promoted Toni Sweagan-Kline, Troy Koenig and Allen Rice from probationary firefighters to firefighters;
l Approved Trenton Herbert and Carson Lambert as junior firefighters;
l Accepted the resignation of Dennis Simpson from the fire department.

Girard
WHAT: City Council meeting Feb. 13
PRESENT: Reynald Paolone, Steve Brooks, Mark Standohar, Keith Schubert, Thomas Grumley, Lily Martuccio, John Moliterno and Joseph Shelby
ABSENT: Mayor James Melfi
Council:
l Heard from Grumley the city is compiling a list of streets that need repaved this year with a $422,000 state grant to cover costs in addition to the city possibly providing up to $225,000 for work;
l Heard from Grumley an Earth Day cleanup is being planned for April 22 at the parks and in parts of the city with Girard High School students and community volunteers being asked to participate. He said the city is seeking grants for improvements and getting a pavilion at Liberty Park. He said Trumbull Career and Technical Center adult education students are being asked to help with projects for their class;
l Approved the Ohio Department of Transportation to complete repair pressure relief expansion points under Trumbull Avenue bridge as required by state and federal regulations. Officials said all costs are covered by the state;
l Approved vacating an 18-foot alley running parallel and in between West Broadway and West Prospect streets. A resident of West Broadway petitioned for the vacation for a planned house;
l Received a letter from former councilman Don Rex with the Friends of the Mahoning River for support of a planned boat launch site in the city by the river. The city received an Ohio Department of Natural Resources Navigation Aid grant for the launch project;
l Requested legislation be prepared for getting a part-time substitute prosecutor secretary for Girard Municipal Court when needed.
