WHAT: Board of Control meeting Feb. 1

PRESENT: Mayor Tom Scarnecchia and Safety Service Director Jim DePasquale

The board allocated:

l $839 to Rhiel Supply Co. for janitorial and cleaning supplies at the Wellness Center;

l $1,000 to T and U Service Station Maintenance Inc. for gas pump repairs;

l $707 to Agland-Co.-OP Inc. for 350 gallons of diesel fuel for the Crandon Avenue pump station;

l $20,000 to Verizon Networkfleet Inc. for GPS monitoring and installation;

l $10,000 to Postal Mail Sort for paper and envelopes;

l $12,445 to Finley Fire Equipment for gear for the new hires;

l $18,064 to Neptune Equipment for a new five-year lease on handheld reading equipment;

l $4,000 for buy money for the Niles Police Department Drug Unit;

l $13,715 to K.E. Rose Co. for equipment for four new police cruisers;

l $1,067 to York Mahoning for a new pneumatic thermostat and switch.

WHAT: Weathersfield Board of Education meeting Feb. 8

PRESENT: Josh Garris, Cheryl Basista, Aaron Wallace, Bruce Bacak and Tim Gleason

The board:

l Approved the 2017-18 school calendar with first day for students Aug. 31 and last day May 24, 2018. The district started longer school days this year, which will continue next year;

l Approved cross country coach Ron Toth to serve as speed / strengthening condition coach;

l Accepted a $3,000 donation from Mineral Ridge Alumni Association for the scholarship fund and a $9,177 donation from Mineral Ridge Athletic Boosters from a purse bingo fundraiser for the athletic fund for boys basketball;

l Increased substitute rates for certain positions and jobs in the district to minimum wage at $8.15 per hour.
