WHAT: Village Council meeting Jan. 4
PRESENT: Brian Klase, Ray Lewis, Richard Harvey, Scott Seitz, Michael O'Brien and Mayor Martin Puckett
Council:
l Appointed Michael O'Brien to serve as council president pro-tem and to the Community Chest;
l Passed an ordinance turning Ninth Street over to the neighboring residents;
l Renewed a contract with Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste District for a drop-off recycling program;
l Passed a resolution to enter an agreement with NextEra for electric aggregation;
l Passed an ordinance that allows the village to take legal action against any business that doesn't participate in the Ohio EPA mandated back flow prevention program in order to protect the water supply from potential contaminants.

WHAT: Board of Education meeting Jan. 4
PRESENT: Diane Alejars, Cheryl Asente, Pete Cardiero, Joe Melfi and Mark Zuppo
The board:
l Elected Zuppo as board president for 2017 and Alejars as vice president;
l Set the board meetings at 4 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month;
l Authorized the use of the law firm Ennis Britton Co. LPA as general counsel and for special education and related matters for the year 2017;
l Established a service fund in the amount of $4,000;
l Hired Sarah Parry as a substitute teacher and a substitute academic intervention specialist for the 2016-2017 school year on an as-needed basis;
l Approved hiring Angela Grdinich as the instructional educational assistant at Prospect Elementary for the remainder of the 2016-2017 school year, effective Jan. 3;
l Approved hiring Dr. Paul Rich as school physician for the year 2017 at a stipend of $4,000;
l Authorized the use of the law firm Squire Sanders LLP as general counsel for 2017;
l Authorized the use of the services of attorney Terry A. Swauger as general counsel for 2017;
l Approved the employment of Lisa Belcik as an assistant cook as recommended by the cafeteria manager providing all qualifications and regulations are met.
