NILES -- Members of the Women of the Moose Niles Chapter 113 lended helping hands to Homes for Kids Inc. / Child and Family Solutions, which held its annual Christmas party for children Dec. 15 at Ciminero's Banquet Centre.
Jessie Hedrick, recorder for the Women of the Moose, said the members assisted at the dinner by providing craft activities as well as cookies and gifts for the children.
"This is the first year we have done this. Whatever they needed or wherever they needed help, we would be there," Hedrick said.
She said one of the group's purposes is to assist children and senior citizens. The members also assist with various community events, including Special Olympics.
Danette Palmer, marketing and development manager for Homes for Kids, said 30 children attended the event, which included visits with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus.
Homes for Kids provides treatment foster care to children who reside in the foster care system in Ohio. It looks for caring families or individuals to provide a temporary and safe home for the kids in need, some of whom have been abused or have special needs.
"The children enjoy this event. We appreciate all the help that the Women of the Moose have provided," Palmer said.
The children received gifts, goodies and a holiday meal with their families.
The Niles Women of the Moose Chapter 113 meets 7:30 p.m. the first and third Mondays of each month at Salon La'Seg, 631 Vienna Ave., Suite 9, Niles.
