WHAT: City Council meeting Dec. 12.
PRESENT: Reynald Paolone, Steve Brooks, Mark Standohar, Keith Schubert, Thomas Grumley, Lily Martuccio, John Molitnero, Joseph Shelby and Mayor Jim Melfi.
Council:
l Approved a contract with A.P. O'Horo Co. of Youngstown for $543,000 for the Glendale Avenue bridge replacement project. Melfi said state funding will be sought to cover costs for the project that is set to begin in early 2017;
l Approved participating in the Ohio Public Works Commission's state capital improvement project for the East Drive waterline replacement project. The city would pay 31 percent, or $37,500, of the $242,300 project;
l Approved participating in OPWC's state replacement project for the city's 2017 street paving program. Officials said the city would pay 60 percent, or $257,500, of the $442,109 project.
l Announced the building committee will meet 9 a.m. Thursday at the mayor's office to discuss grant funding for paving next year;
l Scheduled a meeting with representatives of the Trumbull County Planning Commission and Regional Chamber to discuss future development and the U.S. Route 422 corridor.

WHAT: Board of Education meeting Dec. 15.
PRESENT: Diane Alejars, Mark Zuppo, Joe Melfi, Cheryl Asente and Pete Cardiero
The board:
l Heard from Superintendent David Cappuzzello a committee has been reviewing options for locating an auditorium on the north side of the Girard High School building. The current cafetorium, which has a stage area, is not able to accommodate all grades seventh to 12th at the same time. Officials have said the new auditorium could be used for graduation ceremonies and other events. Cappuzzello said a decision should be made in January. The board has been speaking with a local property owner about land;
l Set the organizational meeting 4 p.m. Jan. 4 in the superintendent's office with Zuppo serving as president pro-tem;
l Approved extending the contract of Charles Mazzella as head softball coach for two years at $4,858;
l Approved continued membership in the Ohio School Boards Association and the OSBA's Legal Assistance Fund at $4,788;
l Approved use of the high school gymnasium for the GTA Martial Arts karate tournament Feb. 25.

Members allocated:
l $14,161 to the Ohio Treasurer's Office for a public water system license;
l $6,381 to Postal Mail Sort for postage;
l $950 to Clancy & Associates Testing Co. for the chief of police promotional exam;
l $4,000 to NEO Solutions for one tote of polymer;
l $2,000 to Cintas Corp. for wastewater treatment plant uniforms;
l $4,045 to the Trumbull County Emergency Management Agency for an assessment;
l $1,830 to CTR Employee Management for an annual maintenance agreement for the Timeforce system;
l $1,413 Gledhill Road Machinery for two auger motors and two spinner motors.
