GIRARD — On the east coast it is Disneyworld and on the west coast it is Disneyland. These locations come to mind when thinking of amusement parks, but northeast Ohio was populated by numerous pleasure grounds much earlier than when those parks opened. The 171st Ohio State Fair opened Wednesday morning and officials celebrated the completion of major improvements at the Ohio Expo Center and State Fairgrounds, including the debut of the new Ohio Showcase Building. Warrant issued for man evading police LIBERTY — A warrant was issued through Girard Municipal Court for Shane Link, 31, of Youngstown, on a charge of obstructing official business Wednesday morning. According to a police report, officers were notified by an anonymous caller Monday that Link, with whom officers are familiar, was staying in a Motel 6 hotel room, with officers also noting that he had felony warrants and a history of resisting arrest. NILES — Ann Marie Thigpen’s administrative career has kept her in one place for the past decade, and she’ll be able to continue that thanks to a series of moves Tuesday night. The Niles City Schools Board of Education approved Thigpen’s retirement-resignation as the district’s superintendent, effective Saturday, then approved her employment to the same position in a five-year, 240-day contract, effective Aug. 4 through July 31, 2031, per the terms and conditions of the employment contract.
