Woman charged after child found in Warren street

By ED RUNYAN 2 min read

WARREN -- Alyssa J. Dickens, age not available, of Randolph Street NW, was arraigned Tuesday in Warren Municipal Court on one count of misdemeanor child endangering for an early Monday incident in which her child was found on the road on Northwest Boulevard NW at 6:37 a.m. and was almost struck by a vehicle.

The caller said the child was dressed in a t-shirt and shorts with no shoes. Officers went to Northwest Boulevard and saw that the child was nonverbal and was not wearing appropriate clothing for the weather. The woman who spotted the child took her into her house to warm up and get her out of danger, a Warren police report states.

Officers tried to find to find the child's home by looking at past calls to that area and gone through the neighborhood asking residents about her, but the child's guardian was not located.

Trumbull County Children Services was contacted while an officer was taking the child to St. Joseph Warren Hospital. A CSB supervisor met them at the hospital.

While at the hospital, Dickens called 911 saying a friend saw a Facebook post written by the woman who found the child and called Dickens, who then went to the hospital.

Dickens said she had recently been sick and her husband had fallen asleep on the couch and their daughter walked out of the house without their knowledge.

The docket in the case states that Dickens was allowed to remain free on a personal recognizance bond, meaning she did not have to pay anything. She pleaded not guilty.

Two CSB representatives attended Dickens' arraignment, and the child was returned to Dickens subject to an in-home safety plan, court documents state.

A condition of Dickens' bond is that she must follow all CSB requirements and the in-home safety plan, the documents state.

Dickens returns for her next hearing Nov. 17.
