Rock defeats Hovis in race for Trumbull commissioner

WARREN -- Democrat Kristen Rock appears to have scored a win over her more well known and experienced opponent, Michael Hovis, with 51% of the vote, according to incomplete and unofficial results from the Trumbull County Board of Elections.
"I had a very supportive team," Rock said. "We crisscrossed Trumbull County for the last eight months. Trumbull county has so much to offer. Traveling across the county has solidified my confidence in this community. This was a great race."
Rock noted that she worked very hard to listen to the concerns of people she met.
"We will work to give them the type of government they have said they want," she said. "We want to give them a government that is responsible to them."
The two candidates did not take anything for granted for this general election, each scouring the county talking to voters and having a battle of signs that blanketed yards and fields asking Trumbull voters to support them.
The political headwinds coming in the election could have assisted either of the candidates as Democrats believed their gubernatorial candidate, Amy Acton, had a real chance of defeating businessman and Republican Vivek Ramaswamy. Also former Senator Sherrod Brown was running against incumbent Sen. John Husted, who had been appointed to the seat.
Hovis said the general election campaign took a lot of time and a lot of effort.
"I met some great people," he said. "We were just looking to make a difference in Trumbull County."
"I would not have done anything different in the running of this campaign than I did," he said. "If I ran this campaign next year, I would not handle it any differently. Telling people what I'm going to do, what my plan is, what I've done in the past. Showing my resume of getting things done serving the people. I've done it at every level."
