WARREN -- Dominique D. York, 37, was arraigned Monday in Warren Municipal Court Monday on charges of first-degree-felony aggravated burglary and third-degree felonies of domestic violence, strangulation and violating a protection order in a Saturday afternoon incident at a home in the 1000 block of Willard Avenue SE.
York is accused of entering the home of a woman he knows uninvited and assaulting her around noon.
When officers arrived on Willard, the woman told officers she is pregnant and has a protection order against York that also covers her children. She had redness around her neck, a Warren police report states.
She said the incident began Friday night, when York, who is homeless, convinced her to let him enter the home. York began to argue with her, and she told him to leave, she said. He took her cell phone, preventing her from calling police. She gave him permission to use her van because she wanted him to leave, she said. She did not realize it then, but when York left, he took a key to the house, she said.
The next morning, she, her children and two other adults were in the home when one of her kids saw York using a key to unlock the front door. She said she woke up to York being on top of her with his hands covering her mouth, the police report states.
She tried to free herself, and York struck her in the stomach with his elbow, the police report states. She also struck York in the head with an empty glass bottle, she said. One of the adults yelled at York, and he was forced out of the house.
York also called police, saying he was at his sister's home in the city and that the woman on Willard struck him with a bottle.
York was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Warren Hospital, where a lanyard around York's neck with the van key was taken from him by a Warren police officer. A hold was placed on York at the hospital.
Bond was set at $50,000 at York’s arraignment, and he was ordered to have no contact with the woman on Willard Avenue or her home. York returns for a preliminary hearing Friday, court records show.
