Becker’s dream of being a judge finally realized

2 min read

WARREN - Christopher Becker's long-time experience as Trumbull County's First Assistant Prosecutor may have been the key to voters deciding to move him up to a common pleas court judge seat by an unofficial vote of 51% to 49% over magistrate Mary Ellen Ditchey.

"I am truly grateful for the good people of Trumbull County who believe in doing what is right, standing together, and building a safer, stronger community," Becker said of his election victory. "I have relied on these same voters for 26 years to do the right thing as jurors and I am humbled and honored to serve them."

Becker also expressed his gratitude for all those who provided their time, money and support for this campaign.

Becker, 63, sought to be elected to a judge seat in 2024, but lost that race to Sarah Thomas Kovoor.

He will replace Cynthia Wescott, who did not run for reelection.

During the campaign, Becker noted he is well versed in the ways that cases should be tried and more importantly the ways things can go wrong in a trial.

"You want somebody who on Day 1 can get in there and do the job," he said.

Ditchey is Westcott’s magistrate. She did not return several phone calls seeking comment.

She said during the campaign that she was grateful for Westcott's mentorship during her time in office.
