LIBERTY – A Youngstown man faces charges after being accused of breaking some glass and leaving for a nearby hotel early Wednesday.
Alexander Blandon, 42, pleaded not guilty to charges of criminal damaging or endangering, menacing and obstructing official business in front of Girard Municipal Court Judge Jeffery Adler.
According to a police report, officers were called to the Super 8 Motel around 12:30 a.m. for a criminal damaging report, and the employee working the front desk in the lobby said someone threw something at a window, shattering the glass and breaking a door. The employee was not injured.
The police report states the Liberty officer noticed a man, later identified as Blandon, wearing a red shirt and pants walking away from the motel lobby to the nearby Speedway. A male witness approached the officer and alleged Blandon was the one who broke the glass door, and Blandon started to walk faster toward the gas station.
The report states Blandon watched officers and was not shopping, and he complied with verbal commands to walk forward and was placed in handcuffs, but pulled away midway through officers doing so.
Officers ran Blandon’s information through LEADS and found several active warrants for his arrest, the report states.
The report states Blandon did not want to answer questions about the damage and was “belligerent.”
An officer who checked on Blandon before he was placed in a police cruiser noted he had a laceration on his right calf area, and Liberty EMS bandaged up Blandon’s leg.
The report states Blandon made several threats to officers and was verbally abusive to emergency personnel on the scene.
An officer spoke with the motel employee, who said she knew him because they had dated for two years and recently broke up, adding that she was unsure why he was there.
She told officers Blandon did not mean to break the glass door, and she had something over it so no one could see in, but she called police after hearing the glass break. The employee said the doors to the lobby were unlocked and she did not believe Blandon was there to harm her.
Blandon is set to reappear in court Nov. 4, court records show, and he remains in the Trumbull County jail as of Wednesday night.
