LORDSTOWN – Lordstown Local School District officials are planning a renovation project for the high school gymnasium.

School Superintendent Greg Bonamase said the $230,000 project includes several areas of work, including two new scoreboards and replacing the visitor’s side bleachers to match the home side bleachers. He said the project will be done in spring and summer 2027 after basketball season has ended.

Bonamase said the Lordstown Board of Education has sought bids for the different parts of the project. He said refinishing the gym floor project will cost between $45,000 and $60,000. He said the high school building opened in 1977, and the last time the gym floor was sanded was in the late 1980s.

The board has approved the following contracts related to the project:

* Farnham Equipment Company at $96,100 for replacing the visitor’s side bleachers.

* Daktronics Inc. for a new scoreboard at $39,098.

* Ceiling Pro of Ohio to replace the ceiling tiles at $22,100.

Also, Bonamase said several high school and elementary classes already have used the newly remodeled and reopened planetarium at the high school. He said there are also plans to let the senior citizens who use the senior center on one side of the elementary school to come to see the planetarium.

In other business, the board:

* Approved the elementary school parent teacher organization to use the school parking lot for a trunk or treat event 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.

* Approved Melissa Kelecava and Terry Forrest as Camp Fitch parent volunteers.
