WARREN -- Xavion D. Moore, 21, of Wheatland, Pa., was indicted Thursday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court on three counts of aggravated vehicular assault and two counts of drunken driving in a July 28 crash on Ohio Street at Stateline Road in Masury that injured three passengers and himself.

According to an Ohio State Highway Patrol crash report, Moore was driving a 2022 Kia Forte west on Ohio Street and failed to stop at a stop sign, went off of the road and struck a ditch and two boulders near a home on Stateline Road. The 12:56 a.m. crash injured passengers ages 20, 19 and 17.

Moore and his passengers were transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for their injuries.

Passenger Felecity Simpson, 20, of Hamilton Avenue in Farrell, suffered a suspected minor injury, while Chloe M. Simpson, 19, also of Hamilton Avenue in Farrell, suffered a suspected serious injury, according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol crash report. Passenger Brycen Wimer, 17, of Fullerton Place in Sharon, also suffered suspected serious injuries.

The report states that Moore tested at 0.192 of alcohol in his urine, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 in Ohio to drive.

If Moore were to be convicted of aggravated vehicular assault, he could get about eight years in prison.

CHAMPION GOLF COURSE

Meanwhile, three young men charged with damaging golf carts and and other property at the Cranberry Hills Golf Course on Clover Crest Drive in Champion July 29 were indicted Thursday on a charge of felony vandalism. The grand jury refused to indict two other young men who were charged with similar offenses.

Indicted were Colton Sharpe, 18, of Atwood Street in Warren; Joshua Meese, 18, of New Middletown Road in New Middletown; and Camren J. Corrigan, 19, of Eldon Drive in Champion. The two young men who the grand jury refused to indict are Colton Alford and Brady Bell.

If Sharpe, Meese and Corrigan are convicted of felony vandalism, each could get about 18 months in prison.

The young men were charged after the Champion Police Department investigated a report by the owner of the golf course that early July 29, someone took golf carts out of the shed where they are stored and took them out onto the golf course.

The golf carts and the green on the fourth hole were damaged and/or destroyed with the carts having flat tires, bumpers damaged or ripped off, fenders cracked and broken off, and seats torn and broken, a police report states. Later July 29, the owner provided police with a receipt he found near one of the carts. It was from the Wingstop on U.S. Route 422 in Niles. It was time stamped at 10:30 p.m. July 28, with the name of the person making the order.

That led to a video at the restaurant being obtained and two of the suspects being identified, interviews being conducted and significant information being provided by the suspects. The suspects went to the golf course starting about 12:30 a.m. to “hang out.” They drove the golf carts in a way that damaged turf, the report states.

The owner of the golf course tallied up the damage at $41,858, including $15,755 to seven golf carts and $26,103 to the grass on the No. 4 hole.

Two juveniles also were charged, and their cases are being handled in Trumbull County Juvenile Court. One of the juveniles was accused of inflicting the largest amount of the damage to the golf course.

FELONIOUS ASSAULT INDICTMENT

Also indicted was Kasey N. Morgan, 21, of Linda Drive NW, on two counts of felonious assault, and single counts of improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation or school safety zone and failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer.

Morgan was shot during a 5:23 p.m. June 16 incident at Parkman Road and Northfield Avenue NW and was initially thought to be the victim in the case.

A man, 20, of Warren, and a woman, 18, of Niles, were initially charged with one count each of felonious assault in the matter. However, the charges against the man and woman were dismissed a day or so later, according to court records.

A Warren police detective said the reason for the dismissal of charges against the man and woman and the three felonies charged against Morgan was that new evidence was obtained. No one else was shot in the June 16 incident, the detective said.

Morgan’s failure to comply charge, also a felony, was filed Sept. 3 as a result of things that happened when Howland police arrested Morgan on warrants, Warren Municipal Court Judge Natasha Natale said during a municipal court hearing in September.

REFUSED INDICTMENT

The grand jury refused to indict Craig Sims, 19, of Warren, on any charges in an Aug. 25 incident at an apartment on Beal Street in which he was accused of committing offenses against an ex-girlfriend when he went to her apartment to get some belongings.
