WEATHERSFIELD – Mineral Ridge High School student and National Honor Society member Sophia Potts put together a bike rodeo area for children in kindergarten through 6th grade at the Weathersfield Fall Fest Saturday at the township’s community park.

The rodeo featured a bike safety course, free items and a chance to win one of eight donated bicycles.

“I put this together and I talked to different charities to donate the bikes for all the kids. They learn about bike safety such as stopping at a stop sign. Then, they maneuver between different cones, and earn their ‘biker’s license’ through each of the courses,” Potts said.

In addition to having a chance to win a free bike, participants also got free bike bells, wheel pumps for their bikes, free helmets and safety lights.

“I’m doing this project for leadership and organized this whole event. I had to have some sort of leadership and then community service hours for National Honor Society,” Potts said.
