WARREN -- A man accused of riding wheelies on a dirt bike in front of a Warren police officer was taken to the Trumbull County jail Sunday after the dirt bike stalled. A "wheelie" is when the rider accelerates enough for the front wheels to rise up off the road.
A police report states that an officer saw the man on a red dirt bike turning from Highland Avenue SW onto West Market Street, so the officer pulled in behind the dirt bike about 6:40 p.m.
The driver performed a "wheelie" in front of the officer, and the officer activated his lights and sirens. But the driver accelerated. The officer turned off his lights and sirens, but followed the dirt bike at a safe speed, the report states.
The dirt bike rider did another "wheelie" on Southern Boulevard, then turned onto the Raider Pass overpass and followed a couple of other streets before the bike stalled on Raider Avenue SW.
The officer drew his stun gun and ordered the man to get off the bike and lay it down, which the man did and was arrested. He was the owner of the dirt bike, which was towed from the scene.
The driver, Keagen Schreckengost, 22, of South Street SE, was taken to the county jail. He was arraigned Monday on a felony charge of failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer.
He pleaded not guilty at the hearing, and Judge Natasha Natale of Warren Municipal Court set bond at $2,500, which Schreckengost posted. He returns for another hearing Thursday, court records show.
If Schreckengost is convicted of failure to comply, he could get about 18 months in prison.
