WARREN -- A Trumbull County jury took less than an hour Tuesday to convict defendant Daron Warfield Jr., 37, of Duke Street of felony counts of domestic violence, menacing by stalking, three counts of strangulation, plus misdemeanor counts of criminal damaging/endangering and telecommunication harassment.
He could get about five years in prison when he is sentenced Oct. 21, according to the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office.
Common Pleas Court Judge Cynthia Westcott presided over the two-day trial, during which four state witnesses were called to testify.
Assistant Prosecutor Jennifer Paris of the Child Assault Unit brought forth evidence to show that Warfield beat and choked his then-live-in girlfriend, who was pregnant, July 4, 2023. Testimony also showed earlier this year, Warfield sent the woman threatening text messages and threw a rock through her window.
The victim testified about the beating that took place in front of the couple's 3-year-old son. Cellphone photos also were introduced, showing deep bruising on her face and neck. Text messages showed Warfield admitting to the assault.
Police officers investigating the case also testified to the victim being afraid of Warfield, who was shown to be riding past the victim's residence after the rock-throwing incident.
Warfield will undergo a background investigation prior to sentencing. Westcott revoked Warfield's bond and he was taken into custody.
