Grand jury indicts Warren woman, but not in fatal shooting of man

By ED RUNYAN 3 min read

WARREN -- Brianna Nichols, 24, of Warren, the woman charged in April with felonious assault in the April 17 shooting of Jamar Hill, 44, at a home on Highland Avenue SW, was indicted Wednesday on other charges, but not felonious assault.

She was indicted on two misdemeanor counts of violating a protection order on the day of the shooting, and she was indicted on single misdemeanor counts of menacing by stalking and aggravated menacing that allegedly happened March 11 involving a woman.

The grand jury refused to indict Nichols on the felonious assault charge involving Hill on April 17, as well as six felony counts of violating a protection order and one felony count of menacing by stalking.

But it's unclear what day the six felony counts of violating a protection order and one felony count of menacing by stalking took place or who the victim was.

The Warren Municipal Court website contains about eight criminal cases for which Nicholas was the defendant. Warren police could not be reached to discuss who all of the alleged victims of the charges were, but many of them were because of allegations that she violated a protection order. A couple of others were menacing charges.

Hill died in St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital about a week after the shooting as a result of the injuries he suffered in the shooting, according to Tribune Chronicle files.

Nichols was arrested on the felonious assault charge several days after Hill was shot. Warren police reported that they were called at 11:48 a.m. April 17 to the 1300 block of Highland Avenue SW regarding a shooting. They located Hill, who was taken to a local hospital for treatment of what police classified as a serious injury, a police report stated.

Police said in a news release that Nichols told them Hill was "coming after her," so she shot him. Bond was set at $250,000 for Nichols at her arraignment in Warren Municipal Court April 20.

The Tribune Chronicle reported April 29 that Hill died after being shot in a domestic incident April 17 and that Nichols was charged with felonious assault in the case.

HIll had been shot twice in the chest and once in the back of the head, the police department stated in a news release. A revolver was found near a vehicle in the home's garage, a police report stated.

REMAINING CHARGES

Because the charges remaining against Nichols are misdemeanors, they are all being sent back to Warren Municipal Court for further proceedings.

Women appear to have filed many of the charges of violating a protection order this year involving Nichols, according to Warren Municipal Court records.

Nichols appears to still be an inmate of the Trumbull County jail after being booked March 31. She was booked on nine different felony and misdemeanor charges March 31, including protection-order and menacing charges.
