WARREN -- Trumbull County Commissioner unanimously voted Wednesday to hire Matthew Glidewell as the director of Job and Family Services and the Child Support Enforcement Agency.
Glidewell will be paid $99,450 per year in his first year. After his one year probationary period ends, Glidewell's pay scale will progress annually.
He will begin Oct. 19.
"I am very excited to start work right away," he said. "I know there are challenges ahead of me and I will work quickly to understand the challenges ahead of me."
He noted he has a vast background in government finance that he'll be bringing with him to this new job.
"I've spent the last six years working on staff morale, building culture, making leadership more available and opening up lines of communication," he said. "Really just working to cultivate an environment that people are proud to work in. I know that is part of the issues that are happening over there. It is really just bringing that pride back to Job and Family Services."
Glidewell noted the commissioners have individually called him to keep him appraised of the issues that he will be facing.
Glidewell has been the assistant superintendent of the Ashtabula County Board of Developmental Disabilities since January. Before being appointed assistant superintendent, Glidewell worked with the agency as its director of operations from March 2020 through December 2025.
Glidewell is a graduate of Mineral Ridge High School and he still lives in the community with his wife and two children.
"I will be forward facing in the community," he said.
He is an elder at First Presbyterian Church.
He will replace John Gargano, the former director, who retired Aug. 1 after 41 years of service.
Recently, Glidewell was appointed to the Weathersfield Board of Education to replace Tim Gleason, who died earlier this year. Gleason was Glidewell's father-in-law.
