BAZETTA -- Township trustees approved spending up to $235,542 to pave Timberline Drive and Ravine Run during their regular meeting this week.
Trustees Michael Hovis, Bob McBride and Joel Davis unanimously approved the expenditure from the township’s general fund as part of the 2026 paving contract with R.T. Vernal.
The board also rescinded an earlier paving resolution and approved a change order removing Cadwallader Sonk from the contract.
Road Superintendent Michael Arnal reported that crews had completed this year’s crack-sealing work and were preparing for winter. He also reported progress on road projects in the township, including work in the Timber Creek area.
During public comment, resident and former trustee Ted Webb questioned the township’s responsibility for drainage improvements on private property in the Timber Creek neighborhood.
Webb said Timber Creek Estates contains miles of aging drainage pipes, some approaching 40 years old. He said he worried that spending township money on private property could set an expensive precedent.
Trustees said the work involves a drainage easement established when the development was built, making the improvements a township responsibility.
"We asked our attorney for an opinion. He gave us an opinion and we’re following it like we’re supposed to be doing," Hovis said.
