WARREN -- Pastor Todd Johnson, Warren's 1st Ward councilman, provided an update earlier this week on his move from Warren to New York City for a new pastoral role.
Johnson announced in January that he was going to take on the new role in New York, but the change would not be taking effect immediately and he intended to remain in his council role until he has fully relocated to the Jamaica, Queens area for his pastoral role at New Jerusalem Worship Center, a Baptist congregation and a position at the school affiliated with the church.
Johnson has been 1st Ward councilman since winning the November 2021 election and being re-elected last November.
Johnson said the move to New York is "happening. I just don't have a solid date yet. But I am closer to the end than the beginning."
He said when he announced the move in January, he intended for it to take several months, "up to six because the announcement was made to depart from the church, but not necessarily from the city. And my family would not be fully moved until around this time."
He said he is still in the "exact same status as I was when I made that announcement -- coming to the tail end, but I don't have a date." He said he is "still serving all the same essential functions I was before, answering inquiries (as councilman)." He said could not attend the last council meeting but "preferably will be better next week."
Council meets again Sept. 23.
Johnson said, "If anything changes, I will be sure to put something out to our council."
