WARREN -- A 10-month-old baby who tested positive for fentanyl became unresponsive and was in critical condition Sunday at St. Joseph Warren Hospital.
Police were called to a home in the 4400 block of Berkshire Drive Southeast off of North Road at 11 a.m. for the cardiac arrest of the child. When a Warren officer arrived, he saw that the child, who was in the arms of a woman, was not breathing.
The woman said she "could not advise what caused the child to stop breathing, but stated he was eating just prior," the report states. The officer cleared the child's airway, but did not see any obstructions.
He began CPR and intermittently performed a back pat in case the child was choking. He continued CPR for several minutes until ambulance personnel arrived, and he handed the child off to them. They continued life-saving measures.
The officer spoke with the mother and learned who the father is. The child was transferred to the hospital, where he was stabilized. The child was going to be transferred to Akron Children's Hospital's main campus, the report states.
A Trumbull County Children Services worker told the officer later that CSB was contacted after the child tested positive for a fentanyl overdose and was in critical condition at Akron Children's Hospital.
A Warren detective went to the home to investigate. The report did not indicate that any charges had been filed against anyone and did not list the names of the parents, but the report was captioned "endangering children."
A man whose name was blacked out made the 911 call, saying his child was not breathing, the report states. Dispatchers advised the officer that the mother was in the background screaming. The officer passed a man whose name was blacked out in the report in the hallway outside of the apartment as he entered the apartment, the report states.
