Kristen Rock sets schedule to meet with county voters
Kristen Rock, the Democratic candidate for Trumbull County commissioner, will discuss her plans for the county with residents during a series of public meetings.
Rock said every decision made by county government should be measured against how well it directly improves the lives of residents.
Rock's meeting dates are:
• 8 a.m. Thursday, Panera Bread on Elm Road.
• 10 a.m. Friday, Niles SCOPE Center.

Monday is deadline to nominate top firefighters
Monday is the last day to nominate a Trumbull County firefighter for the Tribune Chronicle's annual Trumbull County Firefighter of the Year competition.
Nominees will be evaluated on dedication, productivity, loyalty and professionalism. They must serve with a fire department in Trumbull County, be at least 18 and hold any rank below chief.
Fire department personnel can nominate a fellow firefighter, but nominations also can be submitted by the public. Nominators should include a written statement explaining why the individual meets the criteria for the award, and the nominations should include no more than five pages of supporting documentation, including news articles, fire reports and photos.
The winner will be announced in a special section during Fire Prevention Week, which is the first week of October.

Newspaper seeks Twenty Under 20 nominations
WARREN -- The Tribune Chronicle is seeking nominations for its 14th annual Twenty Under 20 program.
The newspaper will recognize 20 high-achieving individuals younger than 20 for their leadership skills through volunteerism, extracurricular activities and academic achievements. Nominees need to be a resident of Trumbull County, at least a freshman in high school and no older than 19 as of Dec. 1.
Nomination forms can be acquired at local high school guidance offices or by contacting community events coordinator Sue Shafer at sshafer@tribtoday.com or 330-841-1696.
Along with the form, applicants are permitted to attach up to five supporting documents, such as high school transcripts. A narrative about how they have shown leadership through community service, academic achievement and extracurricular activities should be included.
The forms can be turned in to Shafer at sshafer@tribtoday.com or mailed to her, c/o Tribune Chronicle, 240 Franklin St. SE, Warren, OH 44483. Nominations are due by 5 p.m. Oct. 5.
