LEAVITTSBURG -- The Greater Western Reserve School Funding Forum, hosted by the LaBrae Local School District, will take place at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 29 in the high school auditorium.
Local taxpayers, property owners and community leaders are invited to a high-impact community discussion on public school funding in Ohio. An expert panel will explore how state and local policies connect to impact your wallet and your schools.
Featured topics and speakers will include:
• Fair School Funding-Then & Now: An update on Ohio's school funding model, with former State Rep. John Patterson and Ryan Pendleton, founding members of the FSF Workgroup.
• Ohio Tax Reform: A state-level breakdown affecting your local taxes with Ryan
Ghizzoni of Frontline; Katie Johnson, executive director of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials; and Terry Armstrong, treasurer of the Lakeview Local School District.
• Ohio's EdChoice Vouchers: An update on current voucher expansions and their footprint on schools and property owners with former State Rep. Stephen Dyer.
• Vouchers Hurt Ohio: A litigation status update challenging the state voucher program with Bill Phillis, executive director of the Ohio Coalition for Equity and Adequacy of School Funding.
The event is free and open to the public, and anyone from Mahoning, Trumbull, Portage and Ashtabula counties, as well as areas considered part of the Western Reserve, are encouraged to attend. The evening also will include a dedicated Q & A session.
