WHAT: Village council meeting Sept 2

Council:
• Authorized Village Manager Jeremy Shaffer to enter into a contract with a paving contractor for street repairs and water main repairs at a cost not to exceed $40,000. Streets that need repaired are South Canal Street, sections of North Canal Street, Arlington Road and North Center Street. Water break repairs need to be made on sections of Ridge Road, Liberty Street, North Center, Warren Road and Ophelia Street.
• Heard from Shaffer that an application has been submitted to get waterlines and fire hydrants and resurfacing on Circle Drive and Lamare Street. He said a meeting will take place with the residents to let them know what is being planned.
• Heard from Shaffer that properties along Scott Street are having tie-ins done for the sewer lines. He said the county is working with residents on the tap-in fee.
• Heard from Shaffer that Circle K is moving forward at the former Rite Aid building, and will be requesting a zoning variance.
• Heard from police Chief John Barco of plans to get a reimbursement grant for new body armor cameras for the police officers. He said there will be five purchased in 2026 and five in 2027. He said when the police department gets certified by the Ohio Collaborative, this will help the department get grants. Shaffer said there are plans to get a full-time police officer in 2027.
• Heard from Barco of plans to look at starting a civilian police academy and also host programs for local high school students interested in police work.
• Approved adding an administrative assistant/ paralegal position in the village's law department to assist with operations of the department at $20.10 per hour.
