WHAT: Board of Education August organizational meeting
PRESENT: Julie Altawil, Jeff Pegg, Brianne Perry, Abigail Reynolds and Kelly Vennitti.
The board:
• Approved a donation of music CDs to the district's music department.
• Approved the disposal of obsolete and nonfunctional items across various district facilities, including appliances, furniture, classroom books and projectors.
• Amended Eddie Williams's one-year limited contract from monitor at Howland Glen Primary School to cook/cashier at Howland Glen for the 2026-27 school year.
• Issued a one-year limited contract to Gina Ronyak for the classified position of monitor at Howland Glen.
• Issued two-year contracts for 6.5-hour educational assistants for 2026-27 to Ryan Frantz (Glen) and Jordyn Pregibon (high school).
• Issued one-year limited contracts for preschool bus drivers for 2026-27 to April Bartlett, Kalin Harper, Kayla Hayes and Penny Deuble.
• Accepted the resignation of Corey Myers as an educational assistant at Howland Middle School.
• Approved Janan Niser, Heather Sensabaugh and Bailee Yale as long-term substitute teachers for the 2026-27 school year.
• Approved Treylin Bryarly, Amanda Cornicelli and Emma Kubic as permanent substitute teachers.
• Established substitute pay rates for the 2026-27 school year: $150 a day for teachers, $170 a day for permanent substitutes, and Step 1 of the salary schedule for bus drivers.
• Approved a Purchased Services Agreement with Jennifer Wonders, Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist through May 2027.
• Appointed Joseph Simko (grades K-6) and Stephen Kovach (grades 7-12) as hearing officers for suspension appeals.
• Appointed head teachers for 2026-27 in the absence of a building principal: Thomas Scirocco (Howland Junior High), Kelli Olesky (Howland Intermediate), Misty Berry (H.C. Mines), Michelle Murray (Howland Glen) and Michelle Schrock (Howland Springs).
• Approved two contracts with Howland Township for School Resource Officers for the 2026-27 school year, the first for $75,899 and the second for $30,455.
