WARREN -- A city man reported being robbed of his electric bicycle on Bonnie Brae Avenue NE near Cornell Street on Wednesday morning.
The assailant threw the victim to the ground and punched him several times. When the victim fought back, the suspect went to his vehicle, got a gun and ordered the victim to put the bicycle in the suspect's car and drove away.
The victim went to the Warren police department later Wednesday and spoke with an officer, telling him he was riding the bicycle when the man, who was in a black Jeep Cherokee, pulled up next to him. The victim was speaking to the driver when the driver got out and threw him to the ground to steal his bicycle.
The victim said he got back up and tried to retrieve the bicycle. The suspect then struck the victim several times. Then the suspect went to his vehicle, pulled out a gun, pointed it at the victim and ordered him to put the bicycle in the Jeep, which he did. The suspect returned to his Jeep, giving the victim time to take a photo of the Jeep's license plate. The suspect then pointed the gun at the victim again and ordered him to delete the photo, which he did. The driver drove off.
The photo was still in the victim's deleted items folder on the phone, allowing him to retain a copy of the photo. The victim said he showed the photo to his brother-in-law, who works at the local prison, and his brother-in-law identified the suspect based on the facial features of the suspect, including a "facial deformity," according to the police report.
The victim had visible injuries to his face, right knee and a contusion to the back of his head. The victim was directed to email a copy of the photo to the police department. The electric bicycle was valued at $200.
The report did not indicate whether police officers were able to locate the suspect.
