A newly completed one-mile trail invites walkers to get their steps in while discovering the Mahoning Valley's aviation history.
The Air Heritage Trail, a $500,000 project, will be presented to the public during a ribbon cutting and reception at 3 p.m. Friday. Entrance to the path is located at 4300 King Graves Road, Vienna, between the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport and the Youngstown Air Reserve Station's new main gate.
The path is constructed in the shape of a C-130 military transport plane with grindings from the taxiways used for the surface. Wildflowers fill the interior of the design.
Funded through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, the pedestrian-only trail highlights the region's aviation heritage through an engaging and accessible outdoor experience. The event is part of a larger series of project milestones demonstrating the airport's continued commitment to workforce development, education, aviation heritage and regional growth.
The trail serves as a recreational amenity and a tribute to the Valley's rich aviation heritage, creating a space where visitors can learn, reflect and enjoy the outdoors.
The Air Heritage Trail is designated for pedestrian use only. Walking, jogging and similar nonmotorized activities are welcome.
The following are prohibited on the trail: bicycles, e-bikes, ATVs and UTVs, motorcycles, scooters (motorized or electric), golf carts, snowmobiles and any other motorized vehicles.
Visitors are encouraged to be respectful of fellow trail users, stay on designated pathways, dispose of litter properly and help preserve the trail for future generations.
