WARREN -- Trumbull County commissioners passed a resolution Wednesday providing additional money to 10 county departments in an effort to bolster their budgets in hopes of enabling them to finish the year.
The county is providing a total of $1,204,150.
Those offices receiving the funds include treasurer, $125,000; sheriff, $100,000; recorder, $75,000; coroner, $78,000; domestic court, $200,000; probate court, $150,000; clerk of courts, $79,150; common pleas courts, $144,500; board of elections, $200,000; and planning commission, $52,500.
Several of the offices are receiving the additional funds to fulfill particular needs that were not expected at the end of 2025 when the commissioners approved their 2026 budgets. Other departments are seeking funds that were requested during the budgeting process but were not fulfilled.
The clerk of courts, for example, had a number of employees move from individual health plans to family health plans. The family health plan cost more, so the clerk of courts office requires more funding because of that change.
Representatives of the Trumbull County Board of Elections at the time the county's budget was approved told the commissioners the amount approved would not be sufficient and they would have to return for additional funds.
At the time, the commissioners told the county department heads they would review the budgets in mid- to late- summer to determine their needs. Reviews of the budgets began in July.
Commissioner Denny Malloy this week noted that sales tax revenues so far earned by the county have consistently been higher than projected at the end of 2025 when this year's budget was passed.
Malloy said the commissioners will continue to monitor the needs of its departments to ensure they will be able to complete the year.
