WARREN TOWNSHIP -- The township zoning commission is working to get a temporary moratorium in place on data centers in the community.
Darryl Parker, chairman of the zoning commission, told residents this week that the commission is planning to place a temporary moratorium on the zoning books on data centers.
He said there is currently nothing on data centers in the township zoning.
"Right now we are working on some language that would force data centers to follow our guidelines and regulations,'' Parker said.
Trustee Tyler Wilson, who is the zoning inspector, said he will provide information to the zoning commission on data centers, which he received from Trumbull Council of Governments and other communities that have been dealing with data centers.
Parker said the commission will work on the data center wording at a meeting planned for September.
He said a temporary moratorium will provide the needed time to work on the zoning issue.
Trustee Ed Anthony said trustees have not had any discussion on a moratorium.
"As a trustee board, there has been no discussion or decision on a moratorium,'' he said.
POLICE CONTRACT
Trustees approved a new three-year agreement with the Ohio Patrolmen's Benevolent Association effective Aug. 29, 2026, to December 2029.
Anthony said that the two sergeants will receive a 4% pay increase the first year, and 3% increases in the second and third years.
The five patrolmen will receive 3% increases in each year.
The department has seven officers and one police chief.
Also, Terry Ambrose of the Leavittsburg Heritage Association, said the organization will celebrate its 30th anniversary from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 20.
She said the organization was originally established as the Leavittsburg Downtown Improvement Association before becoming the Leavittsburg Heritage Association.
She said there will also be a program at 6 p.m. Sept. 17 on the Leavittsburg Hometown Discount Store.
Trustees also heard from resident Julia Shutt concerned about a home on Templeton Drive which was burned down with the property needing to be cleaned up.

Approved an agreement between the township and LaBrae schools for a school resource officer for three years from 2026-2028 currently at $80,490.
Accepted a bid of $4,600 from Hunter's Asphalt to repair and seal the asphalt at the recycling center on West Market Street. The project will be paid for from a $15,000 grant from the Geauga Trumbull Solid Waste Management District.
Promoted Chad Beran to police investigator effective Aug. 29.
Declared properties at 958 Bane St., 720 Miller St., 341 Orris Road and 4109 Turner Road as unsafe and structurally defective after being inspected by the fire chief and the county zoning inspector and to proceed with demolition.
Received a $15,000 grant from the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District and $10,000 from the Ohio Attorney General's Shine a Light on Dumping grant.
Announced a public meeting for 7 p.m. Sept. 23 at LaBrae High School on the Caleb Road Meadowbrook project.
Announced there are 12 applicants seeking the zoning inspector position. Wilson currently serves as the zoning inspector.
Accepted the resignation of Colton Garland, a full-time laborer. Driver from the road department effective Aug. 22.
