WARREN -- Mickell J. Hall, 63, of Clermont Avenue NE, was sentenced to 8 to 10 1/2 years in prison Tuesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court on felonious assault with a gun specification and misdemeanor domestic violence in the Dec. 5 shooting of his wife at their home.
After a standoff at a Niles motel, Hall was arrested. The gun used in the shooting was found by police in a clothes hamper at the Warren home. Hall's wife, who recovered from being shot in the chest, agreed to the sentence.
Hall, who had a 2019 cocaine-possession conviction, got credit for the 253 days he already spent in the county jail toward his sentence.
According to a Warren police report, officers were sent to Clermont Avenue for a woman shot in the chest. Judge Sarah Kovoor handed down the sentence.
As officers were traveling to the location, dispatchers advised that Hall was the suspect and that the victim was outside at her neighbor's house. Hall was still in the house with a gun, according to the report.
As officers arrived, Hall drove off in a black vehicle and headed toward Elm Road, with the victim being treated by ambulance personnel.
Hall's vehicle was located at the Days Inn on Youngstown Warren Road in Niles, where he had just checked into a room. The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
The Niles police were alerted that Hall's car was entering Niles at Route 422 at North Road as indicated by Flock cameras. Niles officers then spotted Hall's vehicle and went to the hotel, as did Warren officers, and the other customers in the motel were evacuated.
Chemical agents were deployed when Hall would not come out and Hall was taken into custody.
LaRICHE
Also sentenced to prison Tuesday was Damon LaRiche, 43, of Tod Avenue Southwest, who got 4 to 5 years after pleading guilty to felonious assault and kidnapping in a March 13, 2026, incident involving his wife.
LaRiche swung a knife at his wife and barricaded the door, also punching her in the arm, prosecutors said. The victim did not wish to address the court but agreed with the prison sentence. There were two children in the home at the time of the incident.
Kovoor said consecutive sentences were necessary to protect the public and the victims.
WHEELER
Kovoor also sentenced Joseph H. Wheeler Jr., 34, of Meadowbrook Drive Southwest in Leavittsburg to 6 to 9 years in prison after Wheeler pleaded guilty to aggravated drug possession, a second-degree felony.
Wheeler was arrested Feb. 24 by Warren police, who found Wheeler passed out in a vehicle in a driveway of a Warren home with baggies of methamphetamine on his lap.
The drug weighed 20.24 grams. At the time of the offense, Wheeler was on probation for felony convictions of drug possession, receiving stolen property and having weapons while under disability. He was credited for the 58 days he spent in jail and was fined $10,000.
