VIENNA -- Township officials are only a few steps away from having their data center language in place, but they're not taking any chances.
Trustees at Monday's meeting approved extending their ongoing moratorium for another 60 days, from Aug. 16 to Oct. 16.
Zoning Inspector Mark Posey said he sent the township's data center zoning language to the Trumbull County Planning Commission on Monday, and he expects it to come back sometime in September.
Trustee Mike Haddle said trustees voted to implement the 180-day moratorium Feb. 17, meaning it was set to end in mid-August.
"I think we should redo our moratorium for a period of 90 days until all this comes down; we still have at least two months before it's all set and finalized," Haddle said. "At worst-case scenario, we have about two months until the dust settles."
While Trustee Phil Pegg expressed belief that he didn't feel it was necessary, Haddle said he didn't think an extension would hurt.
"I mean, it may not be necessary -- we got the groundwork in place, but there's nothing to say, someone files tomorrow, we don't have anything actually in place," Haddle said.
Regarding their new zoning language during their pre-meeting workshop, Trustee Kim Ellis noted that a lot of work had gone into it and that it was a nice package, but questioned the maximum permissible sound levels, adding that they should realistically be set to 45 during the evening and 50 during the day.
While officials did not specify what the new language had regarding noise levels, Pegg said the matter has been taken to court already, and their listed ones are the minimum a judge would allow.
