HOWLAND -- The suspect in a standoff that concluded with the person committing suicide earlier this month has been identified.
According to an email from the U.S. Marshals Northern District of Ohio office, the Trumbull County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as Robert P. Young, 52. The representative said that the agency's violent fugitive task force received information that Young, who has been on the run since 2022, was hiding in a house in the 3900 block of Highlawn Avenue SW, Howland.
He was noted to have an extensive violent criminal history and was wanted by the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office on charges of attempted murder, felonious assault and aggravated burglary.
The representative said task force members saw Young leave the residence and flee to a wooded area behind the property, adding that officers heard a single gunshot. Officers found him dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the representative.
