WARREN -- Michael Stroup, 37, who is legally blind and reported missing by his family on Friday, was found early Monday in a factory across the street from where he was staying. He is charged with felony breaking and entering.
A Warren police report from Monday states that an alarm company reported at 2:04 a.m. Monday an alarm drop at the Engineered Wire Products plant at 3121 W. Market St. A representative from the factory was going to meet the police there.
When officers and the representative entered, the representative stated that a light was on that he had turned off "earlier in the day." As they checked the building, an officer saw Stroup sleeping in a chair in the warehouse part of the building.
Officers woke him up and handcuffed him. Police dispatch advised that Stroup was listed as a missing person but also had a warrant through Warren Municipal Court for domestic violence, the report states.
Stroup told the officer that "Kevin" let him in and told him he could stay there. The building representative said he did not know any Kevin who would have allowed Stroup to stay there. Stroup was taken to the Trumbull County jail.
He was set for hearings on the breaking and entering and the domestic violence charge, but he "refused to appear" for his arraignment at the Trumbull County jail, and Judge Natasha Natale ordered an "emergency prehospitalization assessment."
Stroup's arraignments on the two charges were reset for Sept. 1 at the request of the defense.
The report regarding Stroup's disappearance stated that he lived in an apartment complex at 3120 W. Market St. His mother reported Saturday that she was notified that Stroup had left the apartment.
She told police that her son had left "without receiving treatment," that he is "on the spectrum," and "legally blind." She said she "checked all night" into Saturday for her son but did not find him.
She said she was concerned for his well-being because he "does not know the area."
The Warren Police Department stated on its Facebook page Saturday night that Stroup was reported missing and was last seen at about 4 p.m. Friday in the area of West Market Street and Lovers Lane. He was described as 5-foot-10 to 5-foot-11 and about 320 pounds with a full beard. It stated that he "may appear disoriented." A photo of him was provided with the post.
Stroup has had two previous misdemeanor charges in Warren Municipal Court in 2021 and 2023 when he was living in an area of northeast Warren.
