WARREN -- Darrin F. Wilson II, 36, of Fifth Street SW pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Monday in Warren Municipal Court on misdemeanor charges of aggravated menacing, using weapons while intoxicated and discharging firearms on school premises, in a school building or within 1,000 feet of the boundary.
The charges stemmed from a Saturday night incident at an apartment in the 1400 block of Fifth Street in which he is accused of firing a gun during a dispute.
Police were called there for a 10:30 p.m. disturbance with shots fired and found nine bullet shell casings in front of an apartment.
A person walked up to police and said Wilson had been shooting at her because she and a female from Wilson's apartment had been arguing. Officers walked to the apartment where Wilson lived, and a woman said Wilson was putting on his shoes and coming out, the report states. Officers told him about the complaint, and they handcuffed him and put him in a cruiser.
The woman, who rented the apartment, said officers could go into the apartment and look for a gun, saying she was not home at the time of the disturbance, having gone to the gas station nearby to buy ice. An officer found a handgun and ammunition in the apartment and took the items into evidence.
Wilson admitted he had fired the gun but denied shooting it at the person in the other apartment. Wilson was taken to the Trumbull County jail, and the woman in the other apartment was taken to the jail on a warrant.
EARLIER GUNFIRE
Two days earlier, Thursday night, about a mile from the Fifth Street shooting, a person said he heard two gunshots at Fourth and Valley Streets SW about 9:39 p.m. and then two men with guns chased him.
Officers were flagged down by two other people in the area who said they heard three to four gunshots and then saw a black Dodge Dart with tint reversing the car at high speed east on Lane Drive.
An officer found one spent bullet shell casing on the street on Lane Drive and collected it as evidence. No injuries or arrests were mentioned in the Fourth Street police report.
